The residential building "Kuznetsovskaya, 44" is a legendary house in the Stalinist Empire style in the Moskovsky district of St. Petersburg, at the intersection of Kuznetsovskaya and Sveaborgskaya Streets. The building was erected according to the joint project of architects Boris Zhuravlev and Abram Katz in co-authorship with engineer Nikolai Dubov. Construction began in 1955 and was completed in 1957. It was the first large-block residential building of variable storey in Leningrad, which became an architectural dominant of the southern part of the city. In total there are 331 apartments in the building. Among the locals, the building received unofficial names "Washington" and sometimes "Pentagon" due to its monumentality and recognizable silhouette.
